Annual Meeting Celebrations and Highlights

NHSA held its Annual Meeting of the membership on June 27, 2017 at the National Press Club in downtown D.C. Members, the Board of Directors, staff, and friends of NHSA had the opportunity to engage with passionate philanthropist and accomplished entrepreneur Shelia C. Johnson. Ms. Johnson spoke about some of her philanthropic efforts and the importance of the sector to the well-being of our communities through an interview-style conversation guided by local FOX 5 reporter Allison Seymour. NHSA also celebrated the resounding support and leadership of former board chair Jatrice Martel Gaiter, Executive Vice President of External Affairs at Volunteers of America, and welcomed new board chair Susan Danish, Executive Director at the Association of Junior Leagues International. At the meeting, three new board members were voted in, and a new slate of officers was elected. The new board members and officers will be introduced in the next issue of The NHSA Exchange. The day ended on a forward-facing note, as CEO Lee Sherman presented on the strategic path and activities for NHSA over the coming year.

At the National Human Services Assembly, our work is centered on fulfilling two key roles as sector convener and member developer, and we feel that this year’s annual meeting successfully captured the spirit of both. We are so grateful to those that could join us for the event, both to celebrate our past work and to inspire us for the work to come.
